Tonight the U's send a side to Aldershot, Not much further than they went last week when they played Farnborough, this time the fans are hoping that it isn't 9 quid to get in, it is an 11, but it is expected that players that did not feature at the weekend will play, plus a few triallists, maybe even Paul Wanless.

Went Fishing on Sunday and as a special treat for you all, here is a picture of Fish and Chips lady modeling one of my catch, minus the Chips, though there was a vague smell of Salt and Vinegar about at the time.

                                                 Saturday 26th July 2003
Today see's the U's take on Coventry City in the Bill Halsey Memorial Trophy at the Kassam Stadium, John McKiernan from littlemore of Radio Oxford Phone-in fame will be presenting the Trophy to the winner as guest of honour, I hope he has a great day, he does get some grief for the amount of times he calls in, but he is a smashing fella, He sits up in the Disabled section next to my Box I do the scoreboard from and always have a chat with him on matchdays, Good luck to him.

Today is the last friendly game at Home before the new season begins, we are away in the week to Aldershot, then away to Moor Green next Saturday, to which I will be missing my first game of Football on a Saturday for many years-Working all day.

                                              Friday 25th July 2003
Paul Wanless, Ex united player could well be on his way back to the club, he has been in talks with the club and will have a medical next week, he is available on a free and will relish the chance to play back at Oxford again.

Oxford Drew at Farnborough on Wednesday night 1-1, Ross Weatherstone played for Farnborough on trial, Derek Townsley started his first game for the U's and scored his first goal too.
At Farnborough the Oxford fans complained at the Admission fee, which was £9 for a friendly, on gaining entry to the ground, there were women handing out vouchers for a free pint in the Football Club bar, The Drink they were giving away was called Badger Bitter, it looked like the stool sample from the Austin Powers movie where Fat Bastard's turd was taken from the toilet, I think I would rather drink from the Thames than drink that stuff, the landlady of the place wouldn't even try it, that said it all, next on the menu after that was a coke.

Mike Ford is having a trial at Merthyr Tydfil this weekend, at what lengths will the Ex U's defender go to get a game of Football, Me and Laurence went to Merthyr in the Pre Season to see the England Semi pro team play.
Fordy played well against Oxford last week, The Manager Phil Heath contacted me to say that he thoroughly enjoyed the game and that the Oxford
lads were tremendous with the game played in a good spirit. it was well attended with over 150 people there

                                                   Sunday 20th July 2003
Oxford lost 3-0 at Home to Tottenham in their first Home Pre-Season friendly today, An outstanding Goal from Republic of Ireland International Robbie Keane in the 2nd half was the highlight of the match, Well tell a lie, Jamie Brooks coming on for 2 minutes was the real highlight, But Keane's goal was world class and left Debutant keeper Simon Cox with no chance of getting to the ball, other than to take it from the back of the net.
Before the game I was fortunate to meet Glenn Hoddle and Robbie Keane on the pitch, I was also sad enough to wait outside the dressing room and get all the Spurs players Autographs as they came out.

The new look Kassam stadium pitch came into effect today too, the size was reduced by 3 yards across, to make the pitch perimeter wider for the subs to warm up on, our pitch was one of the largest last season, so the difference will not make the ground too much smaller, though still being bigger than most others in the league.

Yesterday the an Oxford United XI won at Chipping Norton 2-0, Chipping Norton were managed by Ex Oxford Player Phil Heath and Also had an Ex Oxford player playing for them, Non other than Mike Ford, Fordy played very well infact and still looked as sharp as he was in his professional days, he did look knackered at the end though, Another great moment yesterday was Jamie Brooks getting another 5 Minutes+, he ran around the field non stop and had a brief touch of the ball, stabbing at the ball in a challenge with a chippy player,
Jamie may get a run out today at the Kassam Stadium, I can Imagine the atmosphere now as he runs out onto the field, God I hope he gets a few minutes, The Lad deserves it, He so much wants to play that he is bursting,  We won't see him in the league for a few months though, but this will give him a boost to be involved today.

So Tomorrow will be the first Home Pre-Season match as Oxford entertain Tottenham Hotspurs at the Kastad, All the players that featured at Oxford City on Tuesday will be available, plus new signing Danny Brown from Barnet, Oxford Should also be signing Tommy Widdrington, Tommy was superb against City on Tuesday, ruling the midfield all night, he is an organizer and a battler, something we missed last season.

                                                    Thursday 17th July 2003
So another win for the U's last night at Wantage Town, not really convincing, but all the same there were a few triallists and youth team players, aswell as Hunter, Manny, Cox, Blackstock, Ciampoli and Louis.
It was Aussie Triallist Adam Van Dommele that got the 2 goals for United, he looked very sharp and had to be as Oxford went down to a 3rd minute goal, but Dommele levelled just before the break.

New Signing Danny Brown didn't play last night, the club are saving him for the big one on Sunday against Spurs, Jamie Brooks sat on the bench last night, but they were never going to use him, he had his moment at City on Tuesday.
Steve Basham did not play either, he was expected to, but stood behind the goal eating chips with new summer signing Derek Townsley.

A great night at Court Place Farm was capped at the end with a late appearance from Jamie Brooks,
Oxford were runaway winners by 4-0, but the evening was emotionally drained when on 88 minutes, Jamie pulled on his beloved yellow Oxford shirt and took to the pitch, he received a standing ovation, which had barely finished when the final whistle went, all the players congratulated Brooksy, even though he had never touched the ball, (And was not really meant too) he showed the fans that he is getting there and can't wait to get back full time, it says alot when a player cries with delight at pulling on his football shirt, there wasn't a dry eye in the ground when he stepped up to the pitch, Wearing a Number 14 on his shirt and 20 on his shorts, he tottered up the wing and a cross the middle, even trying to make a through ball into the area, but then the whistle went,
The best 2 minutes football we have seen for a long time and a moment of joy that will be talked about for many a day.

Tonight see's the United first team play their first game of the Pre-season in front of their fans at Court Place Farm against Oxford City, City who won the Senior Cup Final at the Kassam Stadium last April, Might have Phil Whitehead in Goal as a favour for Mickey Lewis.
Kick off is 7.45pm.

                                                    Sunday 13th July 2003
Oxford lost 4-1 to Walsall in the 3x30 minute matches at Lilleshall yesterday and also lost 3-1 to Thame United  at Windmill Road, though the team at Thame was the complete Youth team for Oxford.
Full Match report from Thame can be read on the Match Reports page.

Nice to see the 2 RAF personnel out in the Gulf wearing their Oxford United shirts in the Oxford Mail yesterday, When Saddam catches sight of the boys in Yellow and Blue coming, He will run all the way back to Scumdon where he belongs. Well Done Boys, keep up the good work, everyone at the Kassam Stadium are right behind you.

                                                   Saturday 12th July 2003

Oxford are adding another friendly to there huge list after Ian Atkins had a call from his pal at Studley FC,
We played at Studley, who were known as Studley BKL when Atkins got the same call last Pre-season,
we lost 2-0 and never got into the game, the team was full of triallists and reserve team players, but we never really got near the goal, The game this year will be on Wednesday 6th August at 7.30pm.

Some of the U's players are having a golf day to raise money for Cancer after Dave Waterman's young son Oakley was struck down with Cancer last year, Oakley is a lovely little lad and has been through more operations and therapy than most people will have had in a life time, So lets hope that the players can raise a huge amount of money for a great cause, Oakley reduced me to tears when I met him, he is so courageous
.
My Son Bradley told me at the end of the season that he wanted to save some money to give Oakley so that he could buy himself something special, he has been saving 20p coins in a smartie tube and at present has got £12 in 20p's, He wanted to do that off of his own back, nearly brought me to tears, that a young lad of 8 years old wanted to do that for a lad he doesn't really know, I am totally proud of him and hope now that more people will take notice of how much cancer can effect other people in ways that they never thought could happen, I have lost Family to cancer, so please support the players in there quest to raise loads of money for the charity they are supporting. Thank you.

                                          Thursday 10th July 2003
So finally Steve the bash has signed again at Oxford, the Striker was a little unsure of what to do during the summer break, he has finally put pen to paper now, so the saga is over.
Sam Ricketts on the other hand has left the club, He has signed for Telford United on a free Transfer!!
Surely then if he has left, that will free up a bit of a wage that could be offered to Bobby Ford to keep him at the Club, Simple.....Or is it that they just don't want Fordy at the club.

Finally Oxford will be in with a chance of silverware again, they are entering the Oxfordshire senior cup, So hopefully come April they will be lifting the magnificent trophy at the Kassam Stadium.hehehe.

My Young lad came home from School on Tuesday and said" Dad, we had an old Oxford United Player at School today, He came to tell us about soccer lessons in the summer holiday's", he handed me the leaflet, it was none other than U's Legend, Mike Ford, He is now working with the Oxfordshire Soccer Coaching Academy, teaching kids his skills on soccer during school break, Quite an expensive event to fork out for though, 10 quid a day over 4 days, then you have to buy all the kit, works out around 300 quid for 4 days.......Strewth............

Former U's player Andy Thomson has joined Partick Thistle in Scotland and U's Loanee Leon Mike, has left Aberdeen by mutual consent.

                                          Monday 7th July 2003
A few confusions have been cleared up, we will be playing a Pre-Season Friendly at Farnborough Town on the 23rd of July 2003(Wednesday), we will NOT be playing at Tring and Nuneaton as stated by both those club.
Oxford will NOT be taking any first team players to Thame this Saturday, they have arranged a behind closed doors match with Walsall, The venue Not to be publicised(but I know), That game will be spread over the day, not just one 90 minute match.

A number of Oxford's fringe players are being eyed up by Non league clubs, Jefferson Louis is wanted by Woking, Simon King, as reported by this site last week is having a trial with Barnet, Stevenage Borough want Manny Omoyinmi on Trial and Telford are after Sam Ricketts, All of those players might be released to allow Ian Atkins to bring in more new players for the coming season.
One of those new players could be Ex Leyton Orient Midfielder Danny Brown, Brown has also played for Barnet.

Firoz Kassam took time to pose for me in his new shirt, So here goes your advert Mr Kassam..
