Monday 30th June 2003
Where do I start today, The rugby World Cup-Under 21's has come and
gone, judging by the catastrophe
that happened yesterday its a bloody good job.......The day never started
well, the scoreboard would not work,
we found that out just 15 minutes before the match, just after I had spent
an hour putting the teams in,
It had been turned off in the stewards room................Then came the
worse bit, I had been told to play the National Anthems in order, South
Africa first, followed by Argentina, even said it on the paper in front of
me,
So, when the Anthems start up, the bloke on the radio shouts "No Argentina
First-Stop!!!!",
So I stop that quick and play the Argentina one, that goes on for 3
minutes and 31 seconds, they want the whole anthem played, ok,
nothing else could go wrong, the organization from the RFU was a total
Joke and they knew it themselves, the end of the 3rd-4th Playoff comes to
an end, So I type into the scoreboard the teams for the Final game at
4.15pm, plenty of time, only 2 and a Quarter hours to kick off, Yeah
right, I type in all the teams with Australia first and then New Zealand
as stated on the sheet, then the RFU bloke Tim comes in and says that I
have definitely got them in the right order, so don't
worry................The teams had been running on the scoreboard for 30
minutes up until the time of the final, He then walks in and says, Change
of plan, they want New Zealand to be the home team now and their Anthem to
be played before the Aussie's anthem, now I was banging my head against
the wall, No one knew what they were doing, but we just managed to get
past the final with no hiccups, The game was finally over, New Zealand
beating the Aussie's 21-10, though the bloke on the tannoy had announced
that the score was 19-10 near the end, which suddenly made me panic
thinking I had the score wrong.......Luckily I was right-He was
wrong........After shutting down the Music system, the computer and
everything else in the PA box, all I needed now was a nice cold drink to
relax after a stressful day.
So down we go, we get to the 1st floor where the Headington Bar( Formerly
Red Bar) is gasping for a drink, only to have a jobsworth steward tell me
that my pass does not allow me into the bar for a drink, I am only allowed
into the ground and the press area, So I chat with the other stewards who
I know on the door, they were going to let me in, only this mini hitler
was adamant that we were going nowhere, but home, You know me, I was out
the door, not before telling him where he could stick his drink, So we
went off to the Hotel Bar for one drink, where you had to poor your own,
but atleast you got one.
Not the best Advert for a day out at the Kassam stadium, that was for
staff too,
but the Rugby was fantastic, but it was a shame the balls were out of
shape.

Funny picture of the day
Ex United players are finding their feet at new clubs, Stuart Massey has
signed for Chipstead,
Phil Gray has signed as Player Assistant Coach at Maidenhead, Where John
Dreyer is the Manager, also Kelvin Mackintosh to whom I was with at the
North Leigh boys awards with on Saturday, has signed for Maidenhead,
He will play alongside Andrew Rose, Another Ex U's player, who we saw play
there when our game with Carlisle was called off very late.
Sunday 29th June 2003
Jamie Brooks was Special Guest at the North Leigh Boys Under 14's awards
last night, Jamie was looking very well, I spoke was chatting to him most
of the evening, Mostly he expressed how much pulling on a U's shirt again
will mean to him, " I just Can't wait he said, But I am not going to rush
it, even though I would play tomorrow given half the chance". Jamie was
joined at the awards by Ex U's lad Kelvin McKintosh, We had a good laugh
winding Jamie up, He was shocked that nearly all the Boys picking up
awards from him were taller than him,
" Look at the size of em all", he chuckled.

So We might be playing our midweek games this coming season on a Wednesday
night, So that we might just be able to shake the Hoodoo off and get back
to winning ways at home
Last nights fans forum at the Kassam Stadium was a success, a huge turnout
from the fans was great, there was standing room only at the back when the
evening kicked off with Firoz Kassam walking in wearing a New Oxford
United Shirt, the first comments were" I hope you paid for that shirt".
The best moment of the evening was when one fan started to say his
question and said" The other night I was sat on the toilet when my wife
came in and said that Oxford had signed Rawle", well he nearly shit
himself literally as He thought we had signed the Real Madrid star Raul,
only to find out he was Rawle from Southend.
Firoz Kassam took time to pose for me in his new shirt, So here goes your
advert Mr Kassam..

Mr K in the new shirt

Fans at the Forum
The evening was marred last night when I had a message come through to say
that Marc Vivien Foe had collapsed and Died on the pitch whilst playing
for Cameroon in their Confederation Cup match against Columbia, He was
just 28 years old and will be a sad loss to Football, The former
Manchester City and West Ham star went to the ground during the match, the
game carried on without the crowd even knowing that he had died,
Foe was reported to be signing for City again this season.
More later.
Thursday 26th June 2003
Tonight is the big fans forum with Firoz Kassam and Ian Atkins at the
Quadrangle, this event starts at 7pm,
Get there early as a huge turnout is expected for the eagerly awaited
questions and answers session.
Went to the Rugby at the Kassam Stadium last night, the pitch has not long
been completed and had 2 games of
Rugby on it yesterday, Now it looks awful, top it off with 2 more games on
Sunday and it will need some pretty
damn good looking after.
The Rugby last night was played at a fair pace and was deservedly won by
Australia, they beat Argentina 48-25,
These players were under 21's, God knows what they feed them, they were
all huge
(Well that's what Michelle said anyway), 1046 supporters turned out, the
stadium was so empty I nearly went through the crowd changes at half time
on the scoreboard, lets hope they have more there for the games on Sunday
, they start at 12.15pm (Australia vs New Zealand Final) and 4.30pm (South
Africa vs Argentina 3rd-4th playoff), tickets are available so go along
for the day and help boost the coffers of the club.
All the new developments are shooting up at the West Side of the stadium,
The Bowling Alley and the huge Leisure/Club shop building is taking shape,
So to is the new Carpark that is situated behind the latter building.
Roll on December 2003 when it all opens.
Wednesday 25th June 2003
In an amazing turn around, Steve Basham was at the Club yesterday to
discuss signing a new deal for him to stay
at Oxford, ending all the speculation that he was going to Wycombe
Wanderers.
So we have yet another striker, But Midfielder Dave Savage will finally
Sign for Bristol Rovers within a Week,
after weeks of deciding which of the 72 Football league clubs he would
play for, he has chosen the gas.

Phil and Ness Beesley are regular visitors to this site and I would like to
welcome them and all at B-line
aboard United We Stand,
Here's to a long and happy friendship......many great times ahead in the
newly
named Headington Bar
and to a great season ahead, We are all looking forward to the new season.
Just 2 days to go until the big meeting at the Kassam Stadium with Uncle
Firoz and Ian Atkins:-)
My First Question for the manager, Who is going to be his number 2(
Officially his Number 2), We don't want no stand in No2 or someone working
for free all season, we need this position confirmed,
We had so many understudies last season that the fans lost track of who
was actually running the day to day training of the players, one week they
would be trained by Fordy, Then Oldfield, then Broadhurst, then whoever
felt like it......Lets get this position sorted.....Please.
Monday 23rd June 2003
Off the beaten track a bit, Today Luton Town should be announcing their
new manager, The Favourite for the Job
is Ex Cheltenham boss, Steve Cotterill, Well he has only ever managed
clubs that play in Red and White, So it will
be a change of Colour/Scene for him, Fat Joe is on is hols and unable to
be contacted, Perhaps he got caught up in
a local Bull fight in spain and they mistook him for a bull, That means
there will be enough burgers to go round for
the locals now, Though Mike Newell is a late contender......(Was given the
Job this afternoon, Good or what.....)
Sunday 22nd June 2003
Happy Birthday today to my sister in law Julia, hope you have a great day

There will be a new page on this site come the start of the season, a page

Portion (of Chips!!!!) at all away games this season.....If anyone would
like to write for the Guide,
Mail this site and we will have a chat..!
Powelly going to Reading( I mean FC not Classes:-) )....Anyone else heard this ?............Get in
touch...
Saturday 21st June 2003
It is looking increasingly likely that Steve Basham will sign for Wycombe
after the Double signing of Strikers at Oxford
in the last 10 days, He has refused to except a pay cut at the club,
Opting for a move down the road to keep up to the way
of living that he is accustomed to, as said earlier this week, He won't be
missed though with the fire power that we have at the club now, With
Julian Alsop, Mark Rawle, Jamie Brooks, Lee Steele, Manny Omoyinmi,
Jefferson Louis and leading scorer
Andy Scott, we will be a force to be reckoned with, Fitness permitting,
the prospects look good.
The
Squad page has been updated this morning, squad numbers will be
released and updated around the end of July.
Thursday 19th June 2003
Oxford today signed 24 year old Mark Rawle from Southend, Rawle who is a
striker scored 12 goals for the
Shrimps last season and was in discussions to sign a new deal at Roots
Hall, but opted to sign for the Real U's
instead, he comes on the day that the Fixtures for Next season were
released, Oxford start off with a difficult away trip
to Lincoln City (Aug 9th), Lincoln as we all know piped us to the last
play off spot, so revenge will be on the cards
from the off, The U's then have a home match a week later against Hull
City, before going on their travels again a week
later to Scunthorpe, 2 games in Lincolnshire inside the first 3 weeks of
the season.
The New Fixture Page is updated on this site, with all the Pre-Season
and Full Division 3 Fixtures.
Wednesday 18th June 2003
So the Dave Savage saga goes on, he still hasn't signed for the U's, he
has just turned down the O's and looks
increasingly likely that he will sign for the Gas, He reportedly told
Orient that he had all but signed for another club,
that was the reason for turning them down, Oxford are not that club, so
Rovers are Favourite.
Simon King looks like leaving the club rather than Matt Bound, he is just
trying to find another club in the league or
Conference that will take him on trial during the Pre-season, Another
Player that is looking increasingly like not being an Oxford player is
Steve Basham, He has not even got back to the club about his new deal,
well more fool him,
but I have heard he has got accustomed to a certain way of life and the
pay reduction would not suit him one bit......
Just a week now before I will be back up the Kassam stadium for the Semi
Final of the U'21's Rugby World Cup,
Dazzling them with my skills on the scoreboard, well trying to get the
scores right any how..
Sorry to those that have been waiting for Logo's for their phones, My lead
has busted and usual service will resume very shortly.
Tuesday 17th June 2003
So the Official website at www.oufc.co.uk
was in the top 4 sites in Division 3 last season,
Chris Williams wrote in his "Sort of Speech" I Suppose I had better do
what they always do at award time
and thank other people, Darrell Fisher has traveled all over the country
taking slightly out of focus pictures of the
back of players heads and Steve Daniels has been doing the same at Home
games, so i would like to thank them for
braving the elements and the abuse from the crowds.
Chris Williams dropped a Pun when interviewing Derek Townsley last week,
when they spoke about Townsley's
job before becoming a Pro Footballer at the late age of 26, he asked what
he did before, he Replied,
" I was a Postman, So I am used to getting up at 5 am in the morning
during the winter,"
To which Chris ended the interview by saying" Well I hope you can deliver
at Oxford"!!!!
Comments on a postcard to OUFC:-)
Friday 13th June 2003
As that famous song went.......What a difference a day
makes........yesterday morning there was no signings,
24 hours later we have two new faces at the club, Derek Townsley has been
followed to the club by Big Striker
Julian Alsop from Cheltenham, Alsop will be a force to be reckoned with
next season, especially with the likes of Jamie Brooks and Lee Steele
Feeding off of him, Can't wait, with Jamie Brooks now training 5 days a
week and Steele on light training, the season ahead now can't come
quick enough.
Dave Savage today turned down an approach by Southend United, as said
before he has been in talks with Bristol Rovers,
But has not been convinced to sign.
So yesterday we made our first signing for the new season, Derek Townsley
from Hibernian, as reported earlier in the week,
He signs on a 2 year deal and will probably be the tallest Midfielder the
club has ever had.
Oxford are also having talks with 2 strikers, Julian Alsop from Cheltenham
and Leo Fortune-West from Cardiff City,
Both have scored goals for fun at all their other clubs, Ian Atkins
will surely have the best strike force in the division if he signs the
pair of them, with Jamie Brooks back and Lee Steele also fit, plus Andy
Scott signing for another year(+).
Lots of goals look immanent.
Player of the year Dave Savage has been in talks with Bristol Rovers, that
was denied earlier in the week, now he has spoken to them, but is not
likely to sign for them, so that means he will probably be a Rovers player
soon then.
Matt Bound or Simon King could be leaving the club next, to allow Atkins
to bring in fresh blood.
Oxford's Reserve team will be playing in a Western League, Called the
Pontins League, it will consist of teams from the west of England and
Wales, I E..All the Scums.....
Tuesday 10th June 2003
So we look like completing our first New signing for the 2003-2004 season
soon,
The Target is Derek Townsley, the 30 year old was released by Scottish
Premiership side Hibernian at the end of
the season, The 6'5" Midfielder can also play as a sweeper, judging by his
size I am not surprised.
Townsley, Born in Carlisle, has played for a number of Scottish clubs
whilst he has been over the border,
Queen of the South, Motherwell and Hibs, He was being chased by Aberdeen
and Falkirk, before the U's stepped
in !!, He has spent over 4 years up North and wants to return south, He
wants a 2 year deal at the club, hopefully we
will see him sign this week and then Atkins can move on to the other
quests...
Paul McCarthy is also rumoured to be coming back to the club full time,
the defender was at the Kassam Stadium towards
the end of last season, on loan from neighbouring wycscum.
Another of Ian Atkins targets is much traveled striker, Leo Fortune West,
the 32 year old was released by Cardiff at the
end of the season and is now looking for another club, Luton have turned
him down, So Atkins may now make a move.
One play that Oxford should go for is Robbie Mustoe, He has always stated
that he would love to end his career where
it all began, Robbie would be a great crowd puller and his experience in
the middle would certainly boost our chances
of going up this coming season.
Below are 4 Banners that I have knocked up, I might use one of them for
the header on this page,
Please email me with the one that you like the best, if I get enough
people voting I will make the change.
