October News
Tuesday 31st October
Tony Cottee has today be ruled out of being Oxford's New Manager, Or so
the U's have said, He has Left Norwich and is rumored to be going to Barnet
after earlier being announced as the U's Manager, Firoz Kassam has now called a
press conference for Tommorrow so that He can finally announce Who it will be,
He has been trying to Win Joe Kinnear over to become the new Boss, Who knows-Tommorrow
could be the start of a new era..
Ray Clemence has been Linked with the Job at the Manor again, He was
linked when Shotton left the club, But as We all know We scraped the bottom of
the barrel and appointed someone else.
Paul Powell continues on His Road to recovery tonight when He plays in
the Reserves against Colchester at the Manor, Lets Hope that He comes through it
ok.
Monday 30th October
Birse Moved on to the New Stadium site
today-Only to Start making the site safe to Work on, Some machinery has arrived
today but won't be used for about 3 weeks, It is Still good news that atleast
something is being done after waiting for so long.
Mike Ford has again expressed His Feelings about the club, Explaining
that He just can't go on with the team He currently has, He needs new blood in
the Squad and if He doesn't get it this week then He no longer want to continue
as caretaker Manager, He cares for the club too much too let it go on Losing and
would like Firoz Kassam to either get a new Manager in or give Him the job
and Some money for Players, We need atleast 5 new Players to get us out of this
Mess, Speculation is That Tony Cottee is coming to the end of His Month loan at
Norwich, He would be an Ideal person to get us out of this hole, He is a proven
Goal scorer and has years of experience, So too has His friend and Club
colleague Gary Parker who still lives local, Perhaps Player Manager and
Player Coach, Who Knows, They have both been to the club recently and Parker was
linked with the club before, His wage bill was always the stumbling block
though.
What is Happening on the Joe Kinnear front ?
He has been here now for over a week and Has yet to even Speak to Mike Ford.!
So is He going to stay and Smith go, Or is Smith going to stay and Kinnear go,
This seems to be going on for too long, What the Hell are two people doing
the same job doing at the club, In my eyes Smith should go, Pay up His contract
and keep Kinnear, After all-we were wanting New Blood in the Managerial
department, Not keeping old deadwood.
Bristol Rovers All ticket for Saturday 4th November
Saturday 28th October F
A Cup Draw made
Oxford have been Drawn away to
Macclesfield Town in the 1st Round of this season's Cup, I am personally happy
with that as it will mean Myself visiting another New Ground, Making it 81 out
of the 92, Who knows-get through that game and I could start knocking off some
others, Though it will be a very hard game.
Reading Result 4-3 to Reading
Oxford were today very unlucky not to get something from the
game, They played with great courage and determination but when the pressure
told in the last 10 mins they caved in, Though the weather did not help matters,
We had a job to see the game from where we were, It truly Hammered down, Going
1-0 down to a penalty was an Early blow, Jarman the culprit for bringing the
Reading man down just inside the area, They comfortably slotted the ball passed
Knighty in the Oxford goal, Then just before Halftime Oxford reject (hehe)
Whitehead made a right booboo on the touchline, going down to save the ball and
somehow releasing it, Derek Lilley was there to steal the ball and walk it into
an empty net, We have never had that luck this season so we thought this was it,
then after Halftime Reading took the lead again, the second was unstoppable,
There was a scramble on the line to clear there shot but the attempt to clear
went into the roof of the net, But Oxford would not lie down going up the field
and Putting pressure on the Reading defence time after time after time, Reading
were beginning to crumble a bit, they were just kicking at the ball, Which they
did for Our second goal, the ball came in from the left wing, there defender
attempted to clear but fired into His own goal, That spurred Oxford into
turbo boost, Within Minutes We were in front, A great corner from Peter Fear-who
was outstanding in the Midfield-was flicked in at the Near post by John
Richardson, That sent the 1000's of Oxford fans into delirium, It was
Richardson's first Goal for Oxford and 1 of Many we hope, All we had to do was
hold on for 12 minutes for our first away win, Then the Sky opened, That is when
we gave away 2 silly goals, They were a mixture of Defensive and Goalkeeping
errors which most teams would have made in those conditions, in the end it all
resulted down to the fact that this was our 8th consecutive defeat on our
travels this season, Mike Ford really ripped into the club and Chairman after
the game, He said" This has gone on far enough, Now is the time for change,
I will be seeing Mr Kassam at my earliest opportunity to tell Him that the
Change should be now, We need new players Now-This Week-And the Manager's
position need sorting out on Monday if not before else We are going to be
Relegated, We play one more game with this team We are going to be Relegated, We
need fresh blood on the Pitch", Fordy then went on to say" If what I
tell Mr Kassam in His office results in Myself getting the sack as Manager then
albeit, If He turns round and says you have the Job and the Money-Albeit, But We
need it done Now", Fordy also Stated that He did not care about the Money
Himself, He just wants what is best for Oxford United Football Club-Because that
is what He cares about the most, Keeping Oxford in the second division this
season, What an uphill task that is going to be, With a 3rd of the season gone
already We nearly Need a big change, My suggestions are We need another
Experienced Defender to go with Andy Linighan and most definitely a very
experienced Goal Scorer to play alongside Derek Lilley, Without those to two
recently We would have had no Chance at all, Though We have Lost-They have been
the best two Players.
New Stadium to Recommence on the 21st
November as the Builders Birse have stated that all work up until that date
will be securing the site of all it's dangers, They are on site Now but with the
work being stopped for So long-the Structure of the building etc are very unsafe
for the workers to resume work (Building), However-Building Materials and
Machinery are Having to be transported down from Old Trafford (Mank)chester
as they will be finishing the work there on Monday, So it was actually good to
know that Birse were on site already, The sooner they start building the better,
Thank you Birse.
Friday 27th October-Reading Team News
So Paul Powell will not be making His return tommorrow , Not even on the
bench, Though Rob Folland may be on the bench, Fordy also has too choose whether
to bring back Dean Whitehead into the team or stick with Peter Fear who played
well on Tuesday, One thing is for sure-He cannot start with Jamie Cook up front,
That would be bordering on Insane! and playing Simon Weatherstone also would
prove He has already gone Insane!
Reading are Expecting there biggest gate ever at the Madjeski Stadium,
So I hope we can upset the apple cart and get the Points, Most of the Media
today were predicting a 5-0 Home win..They must have thought the game was
at the Manor!<hehehe>
Thursday 26th October
Today I received my First Piece of Wembley History, 12"x12" of
Wembley Turf, In it's very own commemorative box with a Certificate saying
that it is Really from Wembley and a Letter signed by the Groundsman, So all I
need now are some tips from Mick Moore on how to preserve it, hehehe.

Good news at the moment on the pitch is very rare, But the return to the
first team of Paul Powell and Rob Folland is a very big boost to the club, They
might only make the bench on Saturday at Reading but then that is good, Powelly
has been missed on the left where so many people have played in His absence, Rob
has also been missed on the right, He is about the only decent right back the
club has, Even though He is a striker!
Joe Kinnear meets Firoz Kassam for Lunch tommorrow afternoon to discuss
what He has already seen and to talk about what is required from Him, We all
hope that He takes the job as Manager, We all know what He is capable of and
will back him fully in whatever He does.
Wednesday 25th October
So Scumdon are going to be without a manager after Colin Todd put in His
resignation last night, Then a Poll on there Website showed that top of there
List for a new Manager was Joe Kinnear, Keep your dirty Scummy mitts off,
If anyone is going to get Him as new Manager it is us, Same old Scumdon, Always
trying to Steal someone else's Chance of Glory, Todd on the other Hand being an
ex Oxford boy probably started to see what the Place was really like, So
it shouldn't be long before Malcolm Crosby leaves.
Wednesday 25th October
Joe Kinnear Finally arrived at the Manor last night to assess the Damage
caused on the pitch, The game nearly didn't go ahead after though the Wigan team
coach broke down-Outside the Manor!, Unless they could move it Emergency
services would not be able to get into the ground be they needed, the turnstiles
were opened late and a late kick off or Postponement looked on the cards, Then a
tow truck pulled it away and the game went ahead, That is when our bad luck
started, Wigan taking the lead after 11 minutes after a cross from the Osler rd
side of the pitch evaded the whole Oxford defence and Scott Green was waiting to
slot the ball into an empty net.
Derek Lilley was in outstanding form again, But when you are the only one in the
form He was in then you are fighting a losing battle, Andy Linighan was again a
rock in the Defence and Peter Fear had a good game in the Middle, But you have
to have more than one in each position playing well, Fear Went close to Scoring
in the first half and from His saved shot Simon Weatherstone Hit the ball across
goal only to see it go wide, Linighan then had a perfect chance to level the
game with 7 mins to go, heading a great cross Wide and the pressure was off for
Wigan, they in turn went and scored with 1 min to go, Andy Liddell Killing off
any Oxford hopes of an equalizer with a brilliant Cross come shot..
So mighty Joe has His work cut out, The watching Martin Keown must have been
thinking what a change of standard the football was after watching this game, it
was clear that it was the top against the Bottom, Which will be more of the same
on Saturday.
Tuesday 24th October Another Defeat.!
So yet another Defeat, although the performance was a little better,
Oxford Losing to Wigan by 2 goals to nil, the Second goal coming in the last
minute which killed off any come back, Which was a blow to our one
attacker, Derek Lilley, He was yet again Outstanding, He must be lying on the
floor of the dressing room now trying to catch some breath as He never stopped
running the Whole Game, Man of the match for sure, Though Richard Knight had
another brilliant game, He was late coming out for the first goal, But then
again made some great saves to deny Wigan for the rest of the game, until the
final blow.
Joe Kinnear eventually turned up and
must have wondered what He had let Himself in for, The passing was good-Yet the
finishing was bad, When we got on the ball on the edge of the area we either
gave it away or kept passing the ball backwards, Andy Linighan finished the game
as a striker to try and get the breakthrough, But we just didn't have any luck
what so ever
Monday 23rd October Welcome Back To United We Stand, Now at www.oxford-united.com
Hello All, I am back now after Server Problems and raring to go (yeahright!!),
Unlike the Players at present, How Disappointing was the scoreline on
Saturday at Rotherham after a good Display-Going down 3-1 after the game being
goalless after 75 minutes, No complaints about their 2nd goal though, I think
that we should start on Tuesday with Manny or Bus up front because Jamie Cook is
Just too lightweight at the Moment for the Scrap we are in, He was constantly
shoved off the ball and could not keep His feet, Derek Lilley again was in great
form, He has worked so hard lately and deserved His Volleyed goal which made it
2-1, Though we should never been losing at that stage, Rotherham's first goal
never crossed the line and their 3rd was a gift from Young Sam Ricketts, Andy
Linighan though was again superb, His experience is proving vital to the
Youngsters in the team, Hopefully soon it will start to take real effects.
We really need to Win on Tuesday against Wigan or else we will really be in what
Pigs wallow in.
So Joe Kinnear did not turn up today,
What a surprise, How many times before have we had a high profile person coming
to the club and then fail to show, Lets hope He does turn up tomorrow or else
there will be questions wanting answers again
Only a week to go now before we see movement at Minchery Farm, Come next
Monday there will be traffic queuing to see what the builders have been doing,
Sounds sad-But People probably will, Just to Prove that they are back. As we
keep saying "We will only be Happy when we have our backsides on the seats
with a programme in one hand and a nice hot Balti pie in the other"
Like We have ever had food that good at Oxford, you can only wish.!
Saturday 14th Yet another Defeat
So this Horrible old Season goes on, What a great Birthday Present
Oxford gave Me today Losing to Wrexham at Home by 4 goals to 3, The display by
the youngsters was a Battling performance, yet the whole teams fitness is a big
worry, As Mike Ford said on Radio Oxford after"This Club is a total
shambles from Top to Bottom, The Club as a whole is run badly and needs to be
looked at soon or else there won't be a club"
