Saturday 6th September 2003 Ok, Mark Rawle didnt start, but the U's were still convincing winner against Southend today, winning 2-0 and going top of the league, The Scoreboard showed it all at the final whistle, WE ARE TOP THE LEAGUE.......WE ARE TOP THE LEAGUE..............Had to be done..... Goals from Steve Basham and a scorcher from Man of the match Paul Wanless saw the Shrimps off, Mark Rawle did make an appearance, only to be called Judas by the 543 Southend fans that made the trip, the attendance was 5,567, not a good gate for a team that is top of the league. Good news is that Oxford signed Jon Ashton after the game, he will be a great asset to the club, he has been since joining on loan from Leicester City last month, He will be the difference between Automatic Promotion and the play off's, without him though, I think we will be lucky to make either. Currently watching the England game in the Hotel at the Kassam Stadium as I type this, Firoz Kassam is jumping up and down as Wayne Rooney and David Beckham bring England back from the death after going a goal down, after advertising the Big Screen at the stadium showing the game, the club back tracked as they never sold any tickets for it, No one was told and fans were watching the game in the quad bar, but were kicked out at half time, good job the hotel was open, Full of Macedonians I think, but a good atmosphere. Nice to see Cota from Japan at the Kassam Stadium today, Cota was happy to see the U's win with his friends and took time to pose for this photo with them, plus one with Firoz Kassam in the bar after Mr K stopped to have a chat with Oxford's eldest fan, Winnie Crawford.

Guess who the Ex Oxford player is? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oxford take on the Shrimps today at the Kassam Stadium, Mark Rawle is expected to start the game alongside Julian Alsop who returns after suspension, Steve Basham will then take a seat on the bench, but as always, Ian Atkins is likely to change his mind at the last minute and go with the same team that started at Kidderminster, minus David Oldfield. After the game at the Kassam Stadium today, you can watch the England game on the big screen for just £5, that will get you into the Conference room and a bottle of beer. Wednesday 3rd September 2003 Lets hope that Saturday will be one big celebration, Oxford beat Southend and then England trounce Macedonia in the Euro Qualifier, the Scoreboard will be turned off in double quick time after the game, So that I can get into the bar to see the match, providing the club are going to let fans stay in and watch the whole game after beating Southend......... Next Wednesday I am off to Old (S)Tra(t)fford to see England Play Liechtenstein, looking forward to it aswell, Will be David Beckham's first visit back to Manchester United's ground since he left for the Bull Ring, my first trip their too, Finally I will get to complete all 92 Football League Grounds, Obviously we are going to Doncaster and Yeovil this season, but you don't get to go to Old Trafford every day do you.....?, Had to be with England playing there..Did you lot think I would go there if Man U were playing then...Think again. With Dexter Blackstock now gone to Southampton, the short term future of the Youth policy could be saved with part of the reportedly received £175,000 payment for Blackstock going towards saving it from the chop, The club were considering doing away with the Youth schemes, but might now think again. Still No news on Jon Ashton signing full time, The News of the World said he would sign on Monday, If I have missed it please let me know, or is it just the club being slow and he will be taken from under our noses next week by another club, just like all the other great players we have had on loan and could (Should) have signed.
