Monday 30th September 2002 Oxford will be without Flash Gordon for the short trip to Charlton tomorrow in the Worthington Cup. Cardiff will not allow him to be cup tied, Oxford do have Andy Scott back from suspension anyway, So it will be Scott and Oldfield/Manny up front, Manny had a great game at York, So Atkins might go for a 3 Pronged attack, though when we went to 4-4-2 on Saturday, we dominated the game. Oxford have sold their allocation of tickets that they had at the club, Anyone else now wanting to go will have to buy their tickets at Charlton on the day. Fans are advised to leave early, there is a tube strike tomorrow, so no underground trains, it will be very hectic in London, we will be leaving around 2pm from Oxford, it is advised that you leave no later than 3pm. Parking is restricted at the ground, So good luck. Oh and if Oxford win tomorrow, I will buy them their Orange Squash for the rest of the season......... god, that will cost a fortune.......hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe. Sunday 29th September 2002 What a day we had yesterday, First off though, I would like to take full credit for the win at York, The Players are only used to Orange Squash in there bottles during the match, So I went down the shop and bought them Orange/Lemon and Pineapple Squash, that did the trick I think................................................. Andy Woodman was in the dressing room gasping for a drink when I walked in, He then went out onto the field and saved a Penalty, though he was the villain that gave them it in the first place, he dived perfectly to parry the ball away. Then in the 2nd half, New loan signing, Gavin Gordon, came racing onto the field as a sub for David Oldfield and 7 minutes after guzzling all that nice Squash he netted the winning goal. Gordon and Manny were the stars of the show, though it was Matt Robinson's cross which met Gordon for the goal, The U's fans went into ecstasy then, they were a credit to the club yet again, even singing for me to give them a wave at one point, the 425 travelling fans were quiet from my end of the field in the first half, but when I was in front of them for the second half they made themselves heard, the chant of the match was, "You only sing with your Tannoy, Sing with your Tannoy", They never got the chance to make a mockery of their own fans by playing the crowd singing, what an embarrassment when you have to play a recording when you score, because your crowd are so poor. The News of the World are always cocking up when they do a full report on Oxford, today they show a picture with the caption" Hunt is on, York defender Graham Porter feels the pressure from Oxford midfielder James Hunt" In the picture is Bobby Ford and Manny Omoyinmi..!!!!, Do they ever have reporters at the game.??? We will never know.. Scott Guyett had a good game yesterday, I spoke to him on the way back last night, Chester drew 0-0 at Doncaster, Doncaster had Dave Morley in the team, So with Guyett, Bolland, Hatswell and Morley, it was a real U's reunion. Friday 27th September 2002 Oxford have signed Gavin Gordon, a 23 year old striker for a month from 1st Division Cardiff City, He will go straight into the team for the clash against the Minster Men. Ex U's striker Lee Nogan will again be our main threat as York are on a high at the moment, But as we are also on a high away from home, this match is set to be a very active and promising spectacle. Thursday 26th September 2002 Lee Steele got off to a great start yesterday when he played for the U's Reserves, Netting a Hat Trick in the 3-2 win away to Bristol City Res, he has shown Ian Atkins that he is ready to do a job in the 1st team, Lets hope he makes an impact on the 3rd Division and stays clear of injuries, he may only be on the bench at York though. Wednesday 25th September 2002 Oxford look like having Lee Steele in from the start for his first appearance for the U's away to York this weekend, Steele, Sponsored by Exiles Gareth and Amanda has been sidelined since the start of the season, that after being suspended for the first game, Steele will have to do well as Andy Scott is only suspended for one game, If he wants to maintain his place in the team he will have to find the net. Oxford can expect a good following on Saturday at Boothem Crescent, The Away Army of U's fans is growing by the game and with them winning 3 out of 5 away in the league, drawing 1 and losing 1, with our away form being much better than our home form, Oxford fans are looking forward to away games more than the home games, A huge contrast to last season, when we didn't look forward to either matches, Nothing went right and the spirit was low, optimism is now high that we can go on and make something happen this season, Keep winning away and just try and get some results at home, though it should be the other way round. Monday 23rd September 2002 Oxford have the rare treat of a week without a game, the last few weeks they have played on a Saturday and midweek, They now have a all week to refresh and prepare for their big week next week, the fans are probably relieved as it gives them a chance to save a few quid, it has been quite expensive lately for them. They are saving up for the trip to Charlton a week tomorrow, with there being a tube strike, the options on how to get there have been reduced, By Rail or by Bus. But before then we travel to York City in the League, York have only been getting 4,000 gates this season at Boothem Crescent, their new chairman has enlisted the help of a tape recorder to boost the crowd noise, So, when York score !!!!!, they play a taped crowd noise, they reckon it sounds like 100,000 people chanting, That means we won't be hearing it this weekend coming, Well York aren't going to score are they?, Better not play it when we score, we have the real thing that travel to the ends of the country to make their selves heard, Who needs a tape recorder, Only Laurence when he is doing the Match Reports I hope....hehehehe. See you all at York, Say Cheese, I will be the one with the Camera in front of you. Chester City, who have been drawn to Plymouth in the LDV Vans trophy, won 5-2 on Saturday at home to Dagenham and Redbridge, The Daggers who were runners up last season in the Conference were well and truly ripped apart in the 2nd half, with the help of 2 ex United defenders, Phil Boland and Scott Guyett getting on the score sheet, Scott said to me tonight that they had a bit of a wake up call in the first couple of Minutes, when the Daggers got an early goal, that sparked them off and never looked back, Scott's goal was in the 81st minute from a corner, he said the corner was taken short, the ball got whipped in and he rose above everyone to nod home, he said they are all delighted to be top of the league and looking on course for promotion, but it is still early days, He said to say hello to all the Oxford fans and to wish them all the best for the big game next Tuesday, Chester have a lot of games to play next week, so there is every possibility that he might miss one of them, maybe the Plymouth game, as at the moment they are concentrating on looking at the league table and not the cup.
