                                              Next Match at Home-Saturday August 16th 2003 vs HULL CITY-kick off 3pm.
Next Match Away-Millwall in the Carling Cup 1st RoundAugust 2003 Kick off 7.45pm
                                                  Sunday 10th August 2003
Yesterday's great win at Lincoln City 1-0 on the opening day of the season was saddened by the sad and untimely deaths of the future and the past of football, Jimmy Davies, 21, on loan at Watford from Manchester United and Ray Harford, 58, Coach at Millwall, Davies was on loan at Swindon last season for 15 games and was a real prospect of the Man Utd youth team, He was killed in a car Crash on his way to Watford yesterday, The Fixture between them and Coventry was Called off as a mark of respect, Such a sad loss of such a young player, no matter who he plays or played for, When it comes to the deaths of players, it doesn't matter who they are, it is very very sad.
Ray Harford was at Oxford during our Manor Ground day, not for long though, but when he was there his opinions and views were gratefully received, he never got paid for his services either, whilst gracing the team with his experiences, ok, he wasn't exactly thought of as highly at Oxford as he was at all his other clubs, but then again, like at most places, you only get what you pay for......Perhaps Oxford should sit up and take notice.................Enough Said.

After 3 months the waiting is nearly over, Tomorrow see's the start of the Nationwide Football season
The U's travel to Lincoln City's Sincil bank stadium for a quick reunion with the team that pipped us to the last Play off place, so another win like last season will be good.
Paul Wanless is set to make his Debut in the midfield along with another of our league debutants Derek Townsley.

For Travel and Guides to Lincoln City's Sincil Bank Stadium, click on the Travel Pubs and Chippy guide.

Wednesday night the Youth Team beat Studley FC 5-0, with 4 of the goals coming after the interval.

                                                  Tuesday 5th August 2003
Oxford send a team to Studley Tomorrow that could contain Paul Wanless making his first appearance in a U's shirt for many years, Atkins is also likely to throw in Paul Powell, Mark Rawle, Manny Omoyinmi and a few triallists, I will where my Chris Hackett Kit again from last season tomorrow then I might get a game myself, as all the kids at the match on Sunday at Abingdon thought I was him and kept asking me to sign everything, Judging the fact that I am 10 years older than him (;-)) came as a bit of a shock, when asked to sign Boots, Trainers, Shirts, Footballs and a autograph books, poor little kids would not give up so I had to give in to their requests, much to the amusement of a few of the Hellenic League team players that I knew.

Match over at Moor green, Oxford coming away with a 3-1 win after going down to a great goal from the home team, Oxford fighting back with a Hat trick from Midfield new boy Derek Townsley (below), Tomorrow the club send a team to Abingdon United to play in the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the Hellenic league, Kick off 3pm, Might just be a few Oxford old boys there.

3 goal Midfielder Townsley

The U's travel to Moor Green today, sadly without Me, Chris Williams will be the one supplying this site with photo's of the match, so look forward to the back of players heads and the plenty of the Grass, especially the bold patches.

                                                  Friday 1st August 2003
Oxford lost 2-1 at Nuneaton last night, the U's had a very familiar face as a trialist, none other than fans favourite Paul Powell, the U's goal was scored in the 89th minute by trialist Gerard McCargo, who at about 4'3" got the goal from a header, where all the heady strikers on the field could not manage a shot on goal for most of the night, Manny missing the chance of the game, one on one with the keeper and he fluffed the ball, he showed his anger too.

Some of the U's players are having a golf day to raise money for Cancer after Dave Waterman's young son Oakley was struck down with Cancer last year, Oakley is a lovely little lad and has been through more operations and therapy than most people will have had in a life time, So lets hope that the players can raise a huge amount of money for a great cause, Oakley reduced me to tears when I met him, he is so courageous
.
My Son Bradley told me at the end of the season that he wanted to save some money to give Oakley so that he could buy himself something special, he has been saving 20p coins in a smartie tube and at present has got 12 in 20p's, He wanted to do that off of his own back, nearly brought me to tears, that a young lad of 8 years old wanted to do that for a lad he doesn't really know, I am totally proud of him and hope now that more people will take notice of how much cancer can effect other people in ways that they never thought could happen, I have lost Family to cancer, so please support the players in there quest to raise loads of money for the charity they are supporting. Thank you.
