Page Sunday 7th December 2003 After a very busy week away from Oxford United I now have time to catch up on the news from the last 3 days, First off the friendly that the U's had against the Scum from down the road, how disappointed we all were to miss that game, especially as I got the afternoon off to take the pictures at A game and was then told that there was not one....what a bummer....maybe disappointed isn't a strong enough word, but then again we all have our chance to let our voices be heard on Monday night as our reserve team take on the 2nd Scum on Monday at Oxford City's court place farm ground, kick off for that game is 7pm, earlier than normal, though Oxford lost the game 1-0 on Friday morning, the club say that the workout of 3x30 minute matches was a good days work, no injuries and the game was played in a very good manner with great professionalism. Myself, my mate Richard Kibbey and Chris Williams and his wife had a good night at the New Ozone Bowlplex on Friday night, were very grateful to be in the VIP party and had free drinks all night and Bowling, Chris said " I'll get the drinks in for all your hard work", only cause the drinks were free......lol. I spoke to Firoz Kassam early in the evening and he was a very happy man, Finally part of his empire had opened, I said that we were all glad he decided to stay on, why throw away all the hard work he has put into Oxford over the last 4 years, The fans are grateful, perhaps we will show how grateful now and put bums on seats for the next game at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday when we take on lowly Carlisle, after all a winning team and league leaders need continued support to maintain their status at the top, Perhaps the club should introduce a kid for £2 for ever game for children under say 12, the younger generation are the future of this club, once they are in the ground kids usually want a drink and Crisps etc, so the club would still gain in the long run, perhaps it is an option they could try in the new year until the end of the season, who knows if someone at the club might read this and mention it in passing...... Anyway the highlight of the bowling night was Lovely Little Lisa Scott Lee and her 2 dancing pals, she performed after Boy band Phixx did a few numbers and I have never seen so many grown men run to a dance floor so quick to see her, ok I was one, but only to get pictures for the site......(HONEST).

Thursday 4th December 2003 Oxford received great news this morning when Firoz Kassam announced that he was staying on at the club to see out what he had started, he has got the full backing of the fans, the media and the council and wants to look forward to the future now and get the club into Division 2 next season, he has also promised to look after any players that get injured at the club and has said that Ian Atkins is going nowhere, also 90% of the players at the club will be offers new contracts at the end of the season if they win promotion, so there is an incentive to do well. Wednesday 3rd December 2003 Pictures from Saturday are at the foot of the page and on the November Pictures page. Still not heard anymore of what Sky Sports News said on Saturday afternoon about Southampton wanting Steve Basham, it popped up on the screen saying Oxford 's 1st goal today at Rochdale was scored by Steve Basham who is wanted by old club Southampton. Tuesday 2nd December 2003 Oxford's reserve team won 1-0 at Nene Park today against Rushden and Diamonds reserves, both teams contained a host of first team players, Oxfords having the most, with only Simon Cox being the only one without first team experience this season. So the football league say that they gave Keith Curle of Mansfield the manager of the month award for November because they won their FA Cup game and Oxford didn't, but in August when Ian Atkins was over looked they said that cup games don't count in the decision for the award, that month we beat Millwall in the carling cup which was the shock of the round, we just think the football league have it in for the club, as it seems that no matter how well this club does, they get no recognition for what they do, win the league and they will probably get overlooked |
Dean Whitehead has though won the PFA player of the month award for November
in the Division 3 category, no more than he deserves as he is running away with
the text voting too and is looking on course to win the Andrew Knapton
supporters player of the year trophy, what a trophy it is too, we wish him luck
and continued success on the field.
