The U's continued their charge towards the 2nd Division yesterday
with a
2-1 win at home to Paul Simpson's Carlisle United, The match
was not quite
as exciting as hearing that Saddam Hussein had been
captured today, but the
3 points are what matters, Matt Robinson
got the 1st goal after only 3
minutes, after a melee in the penalty
box the ball came out to Robbo just
inside the area and he slotted
the ball through the pack and into the back
of the net.

Just 2 minutes later striker Julian Alsop was booked for a petty foul
and
really needs to learn to keep his cool, if the ref is going for his book,
no
matter how much protesting is going to get him off the offence, Jules
seemed
hell bent on getting himself sent off by arguing with the deranged
official
who lost the game from then on, getting every decision wrong.
On 30 minutes Oxford extended their lead when Skipper Andy Crosby
easily
dispatched his penalty after Steve Basham had been fouled in the
area, an
onslaught looked on the cards, but the U's failed to add to their tally.
In the 2nd half lowly Carlisle got a goal back after Andy Woodman was
adjudged to have brought down Kevin Henderson, the keeper came out
to get
the ball-leaping into the air as Henderson came in with both feet,
if
anything it was a free kick to Oxford, but the Ref and his assistant
gave a
penalty and booked the U's keeper, Woody dived the right way
but could not
stop the kick from Richie Foran, but the U's held off a late
challenge from
the basement boys to hold on to top spot in Division 3,
with Hull drawing
there is now a gap of 4 points between top and the play
off place, lets hope
that by the New Year there will be a bigger gap.

Officials get escorted off the field after the Carlisle match.

Oxford will be without Big Julian Alsop tomorrow as he has been under
the weather this week, Jules's height will be missed as he won everything
in
the air when we last played at Rochdale 2 weeks ago.
James Hunt and Scott McNiven will also b e recalled to the squad after
their
suspension and Injury layoffs.Jamie Brooks will begin his months
loan spell at Maidenhead tomorrow,
just 2 days after he signed a new deal to
stay at Oxford, that was the
reward for battling back from Guillaine Barre
Syndrome over the last
18 months, We all hope that he enjoys his month at
the Berkshire club
and returns to Oxford fit and ready to give a helping
hand in the U's
winning promotion to Division 2.
It will be nice to see a another friendly face return to Oxford
tomorrow,
Paul Simpson who was undoubtedly one of the best wingers this club
ever had is now Player Manager at rock bottom Carlisle and is hoping
that he
can turn the form books around and go back to Cumbria with all
the points,
Oxford will have to be on their guard as we all remember
being top of the
league and going to Chester City who were bottom, So
make sure you all get
behind the lads tomorrow and spur them on to 3
more points and top of the
league status.
Lets hope that our trip to Swansea on Tuesday 6th January 2004 is
better
than the last time we went to the vetch, That game was on a
Friday night and
the sky opened and I got so wet in the first half that
I had to sit up in
the main stand for the second half, might have to
book the following day off
and stay in Wales, Especially as Boyo can
then spent the night with his
woolly girl friend.

Oxford are looking into the prospect of playing the York City game
due
to be played in March on the Saturday we will both be without a
game
again-FA cup 3rd round day on January 3rd 2004, Ian Atkins
was not happy
about re-arranging it last time, but after seeing what
a week off did to the
club on 2nd round day, he might change his mind,
it would also give him a
free week between weekends in March and
will also attracted maybe another
200 York fans.

Monday 8th December 2003
Tonight I went to the Reserve game at Oxford City, let just have a
little sing song....We beat the SCUM 3-0,
We beat the SCUM 3-0.....................a fine display in front of the
Oxford fans this time made up for the defeat in an empty stadium on Friday, Lee Steele made another 90 minutes on his road to recovery and played
very well, also getting the U's off the mark, Tom Winters added a 2nd after
good work again by Steele, then Jefferson Louis ran at the Scum defence and
shot from the edge of the area for a deserved goal which brought chants from
the crowd behind the goal 3-0 to the Oxford boys........Midway through the
1st half Scum had a play sent off for foul and abusive
language towards the
referee-the ref enjoyed blowing his whistle a bit and was assessed in the
main stand by Professional referee Keith Harris, though Orville was not
there as it was too cold.
At the end of the match the Oxford fans raced towards the tunnel cage to
shout SCUM-SCUM-SCUM-SCUM to the Scum players as they left the field, to
which one of the Scum players replied "what's it like playing in Division 3
?", my reply would have been-"We are keeping the place warm for you...", a
good nights work by the 2nd string in front of approx 100 Oxford fans and 1
Scumdon fan.
highlight of the bowling night on Friday was Lovely Little Lisa Scott Lee
and her 2 dancing pals, she performed after Boy band Phixx did a few numbers
and I have never seen so many grown men run to a dance floor so quick to see
her, ok I was one, but only to get pictures for the site......(HONEST).
