Page Sunday 23rd November 2003 Pictures from the day are below. What a day yesterday was, England winning the Rugby World Cup against the Aussies, Oxford over coming their hoodoo at Home against Macclesfield 3-1, Goals from Julian Alsop(29), James Hunt(45) and Paul Wanless(70) brought the U's back from a goal down after the Silkmen took the lead on 4 minutes and Andy Scott making his first appearance at a match since that dreadful day at Boston, It was great to see you there Scotty, Can't wait to see you off them crutches and storming down that pitch again and that goes from all of us at United We Stand. Oh and the other thing was Chris Williams losing at Jenga before the game...hehehe. Certainly gave everyone in the press room a laugh anyway. Bad news from the game yesterday was Scott McNiven being carried off on a stretcher with Ankle Ligament damage, He will be out for around 3-4 weeks, Sorry Becka, you will have to visit him in Northampton general if you want to see his ball control or see him dribble, or is that you dribbling........:-) Saturday was also my first chance to get into the Oxford Mail stand this season (before the ground was open) to see the marvellous Plaque we had made in Memory of Andrew Knapton, Those of you that haven't seen it yet, it is in the Centre tunnel of the Oxford Mail stand (behind the Goal), Above you just as you walk up the steps to the seating area, And if you are 6 foot 10, Please give it a polish for us. Picture of the plaque in the Mail Stand Pudsie and Ollie collect for charity U's get a late Corner John Hollins and Myself yesterday Good to see Andy Scott back at the football 3-1 to the U's and then we are top the league-we are top the league......... Rosie with John Hollins and right John with Graham Rix............................. Saturday 22nd November 2003 Sorry but this has to be done............ Congratulations to the England Rugby Team today, Finally after years and years of heartache, England are officially the Best EGG CHASERS in the whole WORLD. Good luck to Oxford today, the team should again be unchanged, lets follow on this day of great joy and happiness with 3 points against Macclesfield at the Kassam stadium today. Friday 21st November 2003 Oxford hope to make it 3rd time lucky tomorrow as they take on lowly Macclesfield Town at the Kassam stadium, The U's have lost twice to the Silkmen in their last two visits to Oxford, Macclesfield are on a little run at the moment after they released Manager Dave Moss from his post, Caretaker Manager John Askey has got the team bonding and playing well and will put the U's under pressure, especially at the end, they play for a full 90 minutes as recently they have scored most of their goals in the 90th minute of their matches. Ex U's triallist Tommy Widdrington will be returning to the Kassam Stadium with Macclesfield tomorrow, Widdrington was on trial for most of the pre season and was then told that he wasn't wanted after playing very well in those games, that could well come back to haunt the U's as we all know has happened in the past. David Smith is also trying to work his way back into the team after being left out in the cold under Dave Moss's reign. Lets hope that tomorrow on the Scoreboard we will be reading something like this "Congratulations to the England Rugby Team-The Best Egg Chasers in the World" Wednesday 19th November 2003 Oxford reserves won 3-2 in their friendly with Oxford City last night, Mark Rawle got the 2nd goal for Oxford in the 1st half and was then carried off on a stretcher near the end of the match, he isn't as bad as first expected and should be in the squad for the home match with Macclesfield on Saturday. Chairman Firoz Kassam is still having talks with 2 Consortiums about the sale of the club and talks are at a delicate but very good stage, He will only sell if the future of the club will be secure, after all-He took out a 25 year lease on the ground and wants to make sure that the club is safe for atleast that amount of time. Ian Atkins has again denied being the slightest bit interested in the Vacant managers job at lowly Southend United, why would he be, he has it good at the Kassam Stadium and the team are in a great position, why would he throw that away to go somewhere that might not be in the league next season. Tuesday 18th November 2003 Oxford Reserves play Oxford City tonight at Court Place Farm in a friendly for the fringe players to gets some fitness levels back, kick off is at 7.30pm. View from my seat at Old Trafford on Sunday!!!!! Liam and Myself after the game The England Team bus....... Monday 17th November 2003 After a very hectic weekend I am going to try and pack it all into this report, Yesterday was a great day at Old Trafford watching the England vs Denmark game Shame that the game wasnt much to write about in the 2nd half, the first was an end to end spectacular, goals galore, sloppy defending, great finishing and awesome atmosphere, shame that England had to throw it all away by making wholesale changes, those changes lost us the game, Beckham got tired early, all the women in the crowd cried when he went off and started leaving the ground, though Gary Neville left earlier. (lol). |
